Plan Too Fast!
Mar 28, 2018
It did not take long for the consistent Fast Plan to strike winning form this time in, at just his second run back from a spell looking good swamping his rivals in a BM64 over 1400m at his home track on Tuesday - doing a great job after making an early run out wide.
With the ground closer to the rails chopping up, it was a clever tactical ride by Daniel Moor who let the gelding relax early before making a move around the field from the 700m - edging closer so he was, in Mitchell's words "within striking distance."
Widest into the straight Fast Plan gathered in his rivals, joining the leaders with 200m to go and showing plenty of heart over the final stages to record his third success from 15 starts.
"He has been consistent since joining the stable," Mitchell said, adding that there was a degree of stable confidence on the back of Fast Plan's encouraging first up fourth at the same track two weeks earlier.
"That seems to be his pattern - he blows the cobwebs out first up and comes to the races second up in good shape."
"He never gets the job done by a long way," he continued, "but he was exposed early off hat hot speed today and it was good to see him get the job done."
Mitchell was pleased to provide Daniel Moor with a winner - "he did a bit of work for us during the week so it was good to reward him."
Moor had good things to say about Mitchell... "he does a good job with his horses and keeps them going well and holding form through long preparations."
Moor was pleased with Fast Plan's performance, noting that "he sustained a long run, it was a big effort as he was solid right from the 700m and he was tough to the line. They were testing conditions today so for him to do that at his stage of his preparation was impressive. I am pleased with the way he hit the line."
A home-bred for his happy owners who were out in force to cheer, Fast Plan is by the now retired stallion Strategic and the city winning Octagonal mare What A Beauty who was raced in similar ownership.
Also dam of a yet to be raced three-year-old full sister to Fast Plan as well as a two-year-old Al Maher filly, she was served last spring by shuttler Bobby's Kitten having foaled an Epaulette colt last September.
What A Beauty is a half-sister to Strategic's dual Group One winner Platelet from the prolific Eulogy family that has been producing high class gallopers for generations.
