It has taken Captain Harry a bit longer to settle in at our stables than some of our other newcomers but he is now getting his act well and truly together – as evidenced by his dominant victory at Donald on Saturday.
Getting back off a tardy start, the four-year-old ended up a fair way back in a well strung out field but a clever ride by Thomas Stockdale saw him making his run from before the turn, going wide into the straight and into clear running.
Joining the leaders at the 300m, Captain Harry put in the big strides and was able to get clear from the 100m, his winning margin an impressive 3 1/4 lengths.
“He has just taken a while to get used to our routine but he had really improved since his previous run at Wangaratta,” Mitch said.
“He had been going well in track work so it was pleasing to see him win in such easy fashion.”
It was win number three from 26 starts for the consistent gelding who has now amassed over $115,000 in stakes.
A home-bred for Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock, Captain Harry is a son of the late Commands and he is the first foal for the Sandown winning Grandera mare Queenera, a half-sister to the Gr.3 mare Tallow, in turn dam of the dual Listed winner Sandbar.
