Kathy’s Beau was a smart debut winner at Kyneton on Thursday March 16, winning for the Whorlow Family, racing in the estate of the late Les Whorlow.

Kathy’s Beau, a gelding by Turffontein holds a special place in the hearts of the Whorlow family, being the first foal of Kathy’s Spirit, who was raced by Mr Whorlow. Kathy’s Beau was carefully mated to Turrfontein along with close friend and successful breeder, John Sutcliffe and we are honoured to train a winner for the family. Les’ son Mark has quoted it was “dad’s dream” to see this horse at the races and no doubt a very special moment for the family to see him salute on debut.

Freedman said post-race “Having known Les through my time with Darren Weir, it is a very pleasing result to get the win today racing in the Whorlow family colours.” Kathy’s Beau “still does a bit wrong and is a bit green, but he does possess good raw ability and it was pleasing to see him get the result.” He looks to be a horse with a nice future ahead of him and will continue to improve with racing.

Kathy’s Beau broke a streak of placings for Freedman, who had seven place getters from his last ten runners, delivering his 14th winner of the season. The team is striking at 50% runners in the top three from the past 50 starters and has a busy finish towards the end of March, including the exciting Ceerseven racing on Saturday in the $750,000 Group 2 Alister Clark stakes.
