Congratulations and thank you to Jessica Eaton who was thrilled to break her Warrnambool duck on Tuesday and we are delighted that she did so on our very own Mrs Bignell.
“That is a great thrill for me,” Eaton enthused – “I have wanted to win a race here for ages and I have finally done it!”
“Mitch presented her perfectly – she was quite impressive last time so I was confident that she was coming into this race with a real live chance.”
“Mitch made it clear not to expose her too early so I left her run as late as I could and she was too good.”
Whilst Eaton was all smiles, even more excited where Mrs Bignell big group of excited owners, many of whom had made the trip from Rupanyup to cheer on their beloved mare.
“I was watching them in the grandstand and could see them going off!” Mitchell laughed – “that is what is all about. They are a group of blokes who got together during their footy days and they really enjoy their racing.”
It has been gratifying for Mitchell to see Mrs Bignell in such great form his time in – this latest success her second in a row; a rise from BM58 to BM64 class proving no hinderance.
“She is a bit of a tricky horse to change but we keep her fresh and well – I actually thought today that she may have been a bit big but she certainly let down really well.”
Charging home down the centre of the track having settled so nicely in the middle of the pack, Mrs Bignell looked to have plenty in hand as she drew clear to salute by an impressive 1 1/2 lengths.
“It was a very good ride,” Mitchell said, noting that “she was able to keep (the favourite) Captain Harry in a pocket at the corner having let her travel where she was comfortable throughout – and she didn’t press the button too early.”
“A big thanks to Jarrod Fry who does a lot of work on this behind the scenes,” Mitchell added.
