Stepping out to 1200m for the first time, No Nay Emerald put on a dazzling display to win by 2.75 lengths at Mornington. Out of barrier 3, ‘Emma’ flew the gates and young apprentice Tayla Childs placed the filly in the box seat, on the fence tracking Sodbuster’s (favourite) every stride, before peeling out at the top of the bend and producing a strong finish.
No Nay Emerald’s victory was Childs’ first winner since returning from injury sustained in 2020. “I just kept her happy and travelling and she was just too good on the day.” A thrilled Childs said in her post race interview.
“As a smaller filly, Childs’ claim certainly was a key factor in No Nay Emerald’s ability to finish off and be strong through the line.” Freedman said.
“We were extremely happy with her performance, earlier this preparation she has perhaps lacked the dash in the shorter course races but has been strong through the line, so we felt she would relish the step up to 1200m.” Freedman said.
No Nay Emerald has now won twice from seven starts and the stable are confident more victories are on the way, especially with growing confidence she can run a strong 1200m.
