Lightly raced 5yo mare, Star Honour broke her maiden at Benalla on Monday October 30, repaying the faith of her ownership group.

Star Honour is a half relation to former stable star Legion Of Merit, who was stakes placed as a 3yo before going to Hong Kong to continue his racing career.

The daughter of Astern showed great promise early in her career but had some issues along the way which resulted in her not making it to the races until her 4yo season. In her first racing preparation, she continued to improve with racing, culminating in a narrow 2nd placing at Sale and then knuckled badly at Ballarat the following start when she looked well placed and a poor run at Donald, coming to the end of her preparation.

At the crossroads for her career, Freedman trusted the ability of the mare, sent her for a break give her another racing preparation. This decision has well and truly paid off, she has come back in great order, with a third placing and now her maiden victory. “It’s taken a while to get a win on the board, but it was very pleasing to see. There have been some very loyal owners and very patient owners involved and it’s good to see them get the rewards.”

The spring has been fruitful for the Freedman stable at all levels of racing, with multiple maiden winners, benchmark wins and some exciting stakes wins – there is no greater time to get involved with our team!
