Brother to the highly regarded Southern Moon, a horse many were fond of both on the off the track, Lloyd The Leopard has a lot to live up to, and he has not disappointed. It was very pleasing to see the son of Puissance de Lune win gallantly on debut, galloping around the field to win clear of all rivals by almost three lengths.
Much like his brother, his stature is tall, a big frame to fill out which has taken some time, but with patience he has rewarded his connections and the stable when he found the winners circle at Geelong July 26. Just like his brother, Lloyd The Leopard was bred by Mike Hirst and no doubt provided Mr Hirst with a great thrill.
Jumping away from the machines, he was allowed to find his feet and balance up at the rear of the field. Turning into the home straight, Jarrod Fry improved Lloyd The Leopard’s gallop and improved quickly in the straight, eased down for a 2.75 length victory.
“It was pleasing to see Lloyd The Leopard win like that on debut. It is no mean feat for a horse to do that in their first start and I am delighted for Mike Hirst. Unfortunately, we never seen the best of Southern Moon after the 2019 season despite the multiple rehabilitation efforts. To have another nice horse for Mike, from the same family is very exciting.” Freedman said.
“As we could see, he was still very green in the straight and he will only keep improving with racing and as he steps out in distance.”
The striking grey is not one to be missed at the races and we are very excited to follow him throughout his career.
