A dashing ride from Jarrod Fry delivered the Mitch Freedman his first winner of the season at Echuca, maneuvering up the inside of the field, fending off some late challengers to hold on by a head.
Samurai Star has had an up and down 12 months and some niggles to keep him away from the races, but it is a real credit to Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock and their team of owners, who have been extremely patient.
After a dominant maiden win in June last year, Samurai Star had one more start for that prep, then had a good break, returning to the races in December. A promising first up run at Seymour was the only run he managed in that campaign, before some injury setbacks which have resulted in another 6 months off the scene. Freedman said “It’s a real credit to the ownership group who have been very patient, it’s been a long road to get him back here but to win a race early in his campaign is very pleasing.”
The 5yo son of Tosen Stardom has only had the seven career starts to date and looks to be in for a promising campaign. “He will improve with a set of blinkers on at his next start and then continue to improve as he steps out in distance with more racing under his belt.” Freedman said.
Congratulations to the ownership group, a reward for their patience and a special credit to Mitch, who has done a fantastic job managing the horse, now back into the winners stall.
