Les Garcons was an impressive debut winner on Saturday May 17 at Echuca. It is no easy feat to win on debut and is the beginning of an exciting career for the 3year-old gelding, who was bred by Mr Ted Powlett.
Les Garcons is a French noun that translates to ‘the boys’ and the gelding is raced with Ted’s sons. A very smart name!
The son of Sepoy has continually improved this preparation and jumped out well at Ararat leading into the race, which gave the team confidence he was ready to go to the races. Freedman said “He is a big, gross doing horse and had a great grounding this preparation, he has continued to step up to the mark and we were confident going into the race that he would be competitive first up. Ted has been a great supporter of the stable and it’s great to have another winner for him.”
When asked for the superior effort, he was green when coming under pressure but once he balanced up and Will Gordon got the whip into the left hand, Les Garcons picked up sharply and attacked the line, winning by just under a length.
Congratulations to Mr Powlett and his family on the win and we will likely see Les Garcons step out again at the Swan Hill carnival, chasing some Vobis bonuses.
