Promising filly Girlcanchat delivered a sharp performance to claim her maiden victory at just her second career start, triumphing on her home track on July 22.
Girlcanchat put in an eye-catching performance at her career debut, closing the race off strongly and a maiden win looked to be in her grasp. Trained by Mitch Freedman and guided expertly by Alana Kelly, the three-year-old broke cleanly and dominated the race in the final proceedings, idling up to the leader and going on by, albeit a little inexperienced and still learning about her job.
Girlcanchat is raced Aaron & Debbie Kingshott, along with their group of owners and this is their first winner with the Mitch Freedman stable. Cleverly named Girlcanchat being by Overshare, it was a great thrill to have Debbie there on track to watch her horse salute.
“She’s always showed good talent at home and has really improved after her first start. It was great to see her put it together today,” Freedman said post-race. “Alana gave her a lovely ride, and it’s extra special to get the win here at Ballarat.”
The victory marked Freedman Racing’s 39th winner for the season, moving within striking distance of its 40-win target with just one week remaining in the 2024/25 racing season.
Congratulations to the Kingshott family and all connections with Girlcanchat!
