Mitch Freedman is on the board for the 2025/2026 season with Mr Shorty winning at Mt Gambier on Friday August 8.
Mr Shorty is a horse that appreciates the softer ground and has improved into the preparation throughout the winter months, most recently with two wins and an honest fourth, all on rain affected tracks since June. Keeping one eye on the radar and one eye on the race calendar, the team felt that a hit and run mission across the border to Mt Gambier would be a worthwhile trip, and that it was great to see the plans come to fruition.
Freedman said post-race “He certainly relishes some sting out of the ground and he has put together a strong campaign, particularly now in the depths of winter where he has had conditions to suit.”
Ridden by young apprentice Brooke King in what was her first ride for the Freedman stable, Mr Shorty was able to settle mid field on a strong tempo and make a long, sweeping run around the unique track that is Mt Gambier, proving too strong to win by just over a length.
“It’s really pleasing to get a win on the board within the first week of the new season and we are hope to see the stable build some momentum into what is looming as a big Spring carnival.” Commented Freedman.
Congratulations to Roll The Dice and their ownership group with the success of Mr Shorty – the first of many winners for the Freedman Stable this season!
