It has been a good few days for the stable – whilst still celebrating Greviste’s big win at Moonee Valley on Saturday we were cheering on Danigree to success at Warrnambool.
Sent out at very nice odds in the 1100m BM58 event, Danigree was having his third run back having been out of the placings at his two previous runs – but with excuses.
On pace on those occasions, Danigree had not really been finishing off but ridden more quietly he was able to find the line and he looked to have a bit in hand saluting by an easy 1 3/4 lengths.
“He has not been racing to his best ability,” Mitchell Freedman admitted, “but he has been working nicely and he trialled well at Burrumbeet recently.”
“He had been up on the pace and weakening form the corner so today I just told Declan (Bates) to ride him where he was comfortable and let him finish off.”
“And he has had a bit of schooling something a bit different for him. It is good to see him putting it altogether now.”
Bolting in with his maiden at Dunkeld last spring, Danigree on that occasion impressed Bates who said “I thought he was a horse who would progress and go on to better things.”
“He just lost his way a bit, he had not been hitting the line but we just had him settled early today and it worked a treat.”
Bred by Frank Salanitri, Danigree is a son of the speedy Danehill stallion Danerich and the three times winning Gilded Time mare Filigree.
Now in Tasmania – served last spring by Mawingo having produced a Cardinal Virtue colt in November – Filigree is out of the multiple city winner Thredbo whose grandam is the Group Three mare Winter’s Dance.
