After a narrow defeat at Donald in his return to the races, Fly Lie looked primed to improve second up at Geelong, stepping out to the 1500m. The son of Sebring, raced in partnership with Mark Hoare’s Pacific Bloodstock was given every opportunity by Declan Bates, settling in the one out one back position and getting the better of Coco Van Winkle in a two horse battle down the straight. 
Fly Lie is a lightly raced 4yo who is still very green and has some physical improvements to make, but it was pleasing to see him get his maiden win. Freedman said “He has come a long way in the last twelve months and continues to step up to the mark. He is a big, rangy gelding and whilst it was great to get a win on the board today, I think we will see a better horse again next preparation.”
In his post-race interview Declan Bates mirrored the thoughts of Freedman, “he takes a long time to work through his gears and I didn’t get to his top until 100m mark, he has a lot to learn, but will be a nice horse going forward.”
As always in racing, there is a special narrative behind every horse and Fly Lie no exception. Mr Mark Hoare, the Managing Director of Pacific Bloodstock of which colours the horse races in has some personal health battles and the team was thrilled to get a win for Mark and his team of owners.
