The lightly raced Perdition opened Freedman’s 2023-24 season account on Saturday August 12 at Kerang, saluting over 1400m.
The son of Hellbent was purchased from the Inglis Classic sales in 2021 and Freedman has showed great patience with the gelding, allowing him time to mature physically and more importantly mentally. ‘Harry’ as he is well known in the stable, had a total of seven jump outs over a 12-month period before he made it to the races, finishing 2nd on debut at Swan Hill over the carnival. 
Freedman always felt he was a horse who will keep improving with racing, which has been evident has he continues to sharpen his race craft, culminating in his maiden win at Kerang. For the first time this prep, Perdition left the gates cleanly and put himself in a winning position, when the gaps opened up, he let rip off the turn and burst to two lengths clear. In true ‘Harry’ fashion, he showed his greenness and was happy to float and wait for the other horses once he hit the front but was strong enough to hold on.
Our Harry will take great confidence and improvement from the maiden victory, now stepping into the benchmark grade where he will further improve and hopefully can win another in the not-too-distant future.
