Exciting filly Skybird took flight once again, winning the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday April 27.
In only six career starts, Skybird has registered four wins, including two Group 2 wins and a Group 1 placing in the Thousand Guineas. The lightly raced daughter of Exosphere has scored herself a ‘Golden Ticket’ in the $1million Goodwood Stakes, back at Morphettville in May.
Skybird took great improvement out of her first up assignment at Bendigo, where she went in missing a key jump out and had plenty of fitness benefit to come. Whilst that was the only time she has missed a placing to date, Freedman was very pleased with the efforts of his star filly and felt she was ready to improve 2nd and 3rd up into the preparation.
The ultimate professional, Skybird travelled over to Morphettville in great order and took everything in her stride. She looked a picture on race day and bounced back in scintillating fashion. “Once she jumped and held a position, I was very confident that she was going to be right in the race… and from the top of the straight, she was simply dominant.” Freedman said post race.
The increase in prize money to $1million has ensured a very strong field for the iconic Group 1 sprint, but Freedman has great confidence in his filly, hoping she can better her 3rd placing in her only test at Group 1 level to date.
Skybird will travel back to Adelaide on Thursday May 9 and we are cannot wait for the weekend, as the team chase their 2nd Group 1 for the season!
