A Dime Approach scored his first win in Victoria at only his second start for the stable with a dominant win at Benalla on Sunday.
Trained initially in the Northern states, A Dime Approach was transferred to Victoria as part of a strategic plan between Kurrinda Bloodstock and Mitch Freedman Racing to explore more opportunities in staying races. Since arriving in September 2024, he has thrived in his new surroundings, benefiting from a change of scenery and the outstanding facilities here at Ballarat.
The gelding’s campaign began at Hanging Rock on New Year’s Day, where he was very strong late at the mile. The Hanging Rock run proved to be a great launch pad for the race at Benalla and has set the foundation for the upcoming preparation.
Ridden by Blaike McDougall, A Dime Approach took the lead early and maintained it throughout, showcasing his ability to sustain a strong gallop, improving again from the 400m mark and proving tough to catch. He has improved his rating from 54 to 58, which means that he is again eligible for 0-58 racing, the same grade he was successful in at the weekend.
The win represents a promising start for the partnership between Kurrinda Bloodstock and Freedman. This victory is just the beginning, as the partnership looks forward to more successes in the future, having purchased the Tagaloa x Jasmine Wind filly together at the 2024 Adelaide Magic Millions sale and planning to purchase yearlings together again in 2025.
Congratulations to the partners of A Dime Approach for the victory and be sure to keep an eye out for him as the gelding progresses out in future races.
