Emerging stayer Guido took another leap towards the Jericho Cup with an 8length romp at Moonee Valley on Friday November 17.
Mitch Freedman began Jericho dreaming in July this year following Guido’s success on the back up at Warrnambool, winning convincingly on July 31. Guido had one more run at Warrnambool under high weight conditions where he was narrowly beaten before having a freshen up in the stable, aiming to have him peaking leading into December. After two runs building his fitness on the road to the Jericho and an eye catching performance in a fast run 2000m race, Guido looked primed to perform back out to his niche distance. Facing many rivals he will likely see again in a fortnight, Guido made a statement, exploding away from his rivals under the urgings of Ross O’Sullivan.
Although Guido had many Jericho points up his sleeve, the ‘win and your in’ race 16 days out was the perfect lead into the Jericho Cup, one of the most exciting celebrations of racing folklore. Trainer Mitch Freedman is thrilled to have a horse on track for the near three mile marathon and believes his warrior is a live chance. “He is a horse who takes a very high workload and possesses a turn of foot at the end of these distance races. It’s fantastic to be apart of the Jericho Cup story and to share it with OTI who have been great supporters of our stable.”
The Jericho Cup is run on Sunday December 3 and we strongly encourage you to visit the Jericho Cup website to learn more about the history and get down to Warrnambool for one of the greatest events on the racing calendar. Congratulations to OTI and the ownership group of Guido on another great victory and as they say, all roads lead to the ‘Bool!
