Consistent galloper Samurai Star added a third career victory at Wangaratta on Saturday, proving too good in the BM64 2000m event.
Samurai Star has sustained a long and fruitful campaign, which kicked off back in July 2024 and the team have done a great job managing him, keeping him sound, feeling well and happy. He has had twelve starts since July and finished in the placings on seven occasions, including two wins and a handful of agonisingly close calls. Jarrod Fry has a good association with the horse, partnering him for each of his wins and understands the horses’ tricks, always seemingly getting the best out of him.
Samurai Star was Mitch Freedman’s 20th winner for the season and continues some good momentum that the stable has built into 2025. Post race, Freedman said with a smile, “He is a tricky horse to catch, he travels up strongly in his racing but likes waiting for his mates. It was really pleasing to see him put his head down and have the result go his way.”
Darren Dance and the Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock team have been fantastic supporters for the team and enjoy following Samurai Star around the countryside. He is proving to be a solid contributor for the stable and now with the confidence of a win following some narrow defeats, hopefully this sees him turn the corner and put another win on the board.
