Smart Little Miss exploded at Terang on Friday March 21 to deliver Freedman his third winner on the day and her first win for the stable.
Smart Little Miss was a rare Inglis Digital purchase for Freedman and is a mare that possesses a booming finish, able to reel off closing sectionals that are well above her current benchmark rating. Smart Little Miss had four starts for the stable in her first campaign and to be frank, was very unlucky to not be winning on three of those four occasions.
Relieved to get a win on the board, Freedman said post race “This mare has a real motor, but her racing pattern means there are always variables against her early. She is very good fresh and we will keep her races spaced, keep her feeling well and ready to let rip.”
Returning off the back of two promising jump outs, the small field was advantageous for the mare meaning that even with her racing pattern, she was able to be within striking distance coming into the long straight at Terang. As Dean Yendall asked the mare to pick up and improve, she did so sharply, putting the race away, running the fastest 400 – 200m split on the day and was eased down to the line. Yendall was very complimentary of the mare post-race, commenting that “she actually got the speed wobbles she was going that fast.”
Terang is proving to be a happy hunting ground for the Freedman stable, with five winners from the last eight runners at the track. Smart Little Miss was Freedman’s 25th winner of the season and the team is really gaining some momentum as we come into the second half of the season.
Congratulations to the connections of Smart Little Miss, one for the black book!
