Switch Hit has seen plenty of the countryside, border hoping between Victoria and South Australia for each of his six career starts and finally got the maiden win he so desperately deserved.
The son of Ambidexter is qualified for the SA Rewards bonus, hence the reasoning to travel him, chasing the SA Rewards maidens. He was very unlucky in each of his two starts, sustaining a difficult run first time at the races and then at Bordertown, hit the front a long way from home before being run over by a $101 pop. He then was honest at Saturday metropolitan level and now coming back to Mount Gambier and stepping up to the 1550m for the first time, put his rivals away with a dazzling display.
From the wide gate, Jacob Opperman settled back in the field and made his move at the 600m, looping the field before the dog leg and dominating the race, eased down to win by just under 2lengths. Switch Hit has made incredible progress this preparation and has really flourished being in work. He was purchased from the 2021 Tasmanian Magic Millions sale and has been a ‘work in progress’ but in the past four months the penny has dropped with him and he has come along way.
His ownership group must be commended for the patience they have shown with ‘Dexter’ and it is pleasing to reward them with a maiden win. Switch Hit will continue to chase the SA Rewards bonus scheme or may pop up in a 0-58 restricted race here in Victoria at his next start. Congratulations again to the team for a phenomenal effort in getting Switch Hit to the races and now into the winner’s column.
