It’s hard to fathom that it had been 470 days between drinks for consistent galloper Ti Tree Lad, who broke the drought at Bendigo on August 14.

Ti Tree Lad or ‘Benny’ as he is affectionately known as around the stable, has always been there abouts in his races, with six placings from his ten proceeding starts after breaking his maiden at the Warrnambool Carnival in 2024.

Benny always seemed to encounter a stroke of bad luck, whether that be through barriers, luck in running or races not run to suit and has been on the wrong end of some sickening photo finishes. We are particularly thrilled for the ownership group, who have held the faith in Benny throughout his career and the team at Mitch Freedman Racing have done a great job to get him back into winning form. “We’ve got a good understanding of him now, what makes him tick and we are very pleased to see him back in the winners circle.” Freedman said post race.

“He doesn’t get blessed with barrier draws and developed a habit of stepping slowly and not mustering speed as we’ve had to go back on him, but drawing a gate and beginning cleanly ensured he had a lovely run in transit and was too strong late.”

Despite only two wins on the board, Ti Tree Lad has accumulated more than $80,000 in prize money and has continued to ‘pay his way’. Let’s hope this confidence booster at Bendigo can see him rise through the BM64 grade, something the stable have always thought is achievable.
