Life after racing for old stable favourite Monsieur de Lune looks like a match made in heaven. He is looking and moving under saddle like an old pro, as he learns the ropes he makes the transition look effortless.

Thoroughbreds are athletic and versatile animals, they can excel in various disciplines where it be on the polo field, eventing or showjumping just to name a few. It’s fantastic and very satisfying for us to see stable graduates out and about kicking goals, to see the excitement they gave us on the race track continue onto into their new careers is extremely satisfying and rewarding.

Monsieur de Lune sets his sights on eventing with his new owner, we look forward to following their journey.

Birthday Suit

Star Honour

Troy Beaston has been attending the Cox Plate with a group of friends religiously for the last 15 years, which later stemmed into racehorse ownership. At the moment Beaston has shares in four horses, one of which he is in ownership in with our very own Racing Manager Alex Ross in Star Honour.

Beaston also dabbles syndication himself, “In my opinion I think they’re greatest things that’s been introduced into horse racing, syndication and flexi-betting. If you can find someone who is into syndicating, it’s definitely the way to go”.

“Early doors my mother was always interested in racing, she is from Shepparton and grew up with horses. The horse first I had shares in was a horse called Zoned In, he was trained by Darren Weir and won a couple of races”.

Reflecting on Beaston’s ownership journey so far he was quick to mention two memorable horses, “The best horse I’ve probably owned was Leica Day, who won eight starts including the Hamilton Cup in 2016. As well as nine-time winner Mr Garcia who won the Benalla Cup in 2018, ridden by Johnny Allen”.

As far as racing highlights go, it doesn’t get much better than Winx. Beaston was on course for all four Cox Plate wins, he later admits if there was one race he could win, it would be the Cox Plate.

It’s important to feel informed with your horses, what work they’re doing or how they pulled up after a race. We asked Beaston how he’s found his experience so far, he explained. “Mitch is a real horseman. He’s honest with his feedback, you know where you stand with the horses. You can put your mind at ease knowing he has the horse’s best interest at heart”.

Best of luck with your horse’s Troy, thank you for your time we really appreciate it!

Employee of the month

Tarni Mundie de Boer pictured with her favourite horse in the stable It’sbruce

This month our deserving employee of the month is Tarni Mundie de Boer, an avid horse lover who is dedicated to her job whilst also fitting her studies in around work. Tarni began working only weekends but over the last few years she taken on more hours, taking up afternoons shifts during the week as well as the weekends. All while keeping on top of her study schedule, a juggling act Tarni appears to master seamlessly.

Tarni has been with the team for nearly five years, starting with us as a 16 year old. She offered, “Mitch has lots of amazing horses, there’s too many for me to name who is my favourite. And they all have potential”.

“I think Bruce is the most spoilt out of the team, I love him because he’s a real character and a charmer. Working at Mitch Freedman Racing has given me lots of learning opportunities, and I have made new forever friends here”.

“Outside of work I spend time working my own horses with a fellow work colleuges, and I also help to keep my Nan on her feet”. We think Nan is one lucky lady having Tarni take care of her, and we’re glad to have such a smart, kind member in our team and taking care of our horses.

Thanks Tarni for your fantastic team work and dedication to
team MF Racing, we wish you all the best for you future!

Staff pick of the month

Brittany Crocker recently joined our team here at MF Racing, with her she brings experience and a  positive attitude. Brittany is always welcoming and happy to help when and where she can, a great addition to the stable.

We asked Brittany if she’s found a favourite in the short time she has been with the stable she was pretty quick to reply, “that’s easy, Sacred (Kaliuwaa Falls) is a big beautiful boy. I like that he’s so handsome, and he’s also a bit cheeky and has some character about him. He gives great cuddles, and he’s fast too”.
