Kate Newton and stable favourite Southern Moon, aka ‘Goggles’ have some big targets in mind for the future.
Kate explains, “At his first dressage competition in an indoor arena at Tatura he came away with a second and a third. Following that at Shepparton show he won the Off The Track Lead Hunter Class which qualified him for the State Lead Class at Victorian Agricultural Show at the start of 2024.” What an achievement for the pair so early in their journey together.
“We’ve done a lot of different things together. From going to pony club, on bush rides, as well as leading the young horses around. We have attended shows and dressage competitions, with great success.”
The pair have been together for almost one year and look to have a bright future ahead. “We go to weekly dressage lessons, he’s learning to use his body differently and to carry himself correctly. Goggles has been an absolute pleasure to have around, he takes everything in his stride and continues to improve with each ride.”
“I would like to qualify Goggles and I for some of the bigger shows in the future, for example Melbourne Royal or Barastoc. And I have always wanted to compete in the Garryowen, so maybe that is another thing we can work towards.”
“At the moment Goggles is working towards becoming a clerk of the course for Racing Victoria, he has to complete 5 lots of official trials. Then will be accredited to do the job on race day.”
“I am very appreciative of Mitch and the connections of Goggles for allowing me to have him in my care.”
It gives us great pleasure and satisfaction to see one of our horses excelling in his career after racing, we look forward to following the journey of Goggles and Kate. You’re doing an outstanding job Kate, we have no doubt the pair of you will kick goals!
